Yulia Krivich: Presentiment

My personality, like the personality of all my peers born in Eastern Europe has been developed in the post-communist space in a society that suffered a deep economic and mental crisis. Unlike our parents, we grew up in the so-called "world without borders". Nevertheless, the echo of past epoch continues to operate in the urban space and in the mentality of society. The experience of transited countries has become the basis of my photography projects. I talk about young people and respond to the events that happen around me.

The Presentiment series (2014) are less a record than an apprehension of the events currently taking place in my country. These impressions come together to make sequences of pictures and signs that I have recreated through photography. There is a vague and disquieting sense of duality – both my own and in the reality that surrounds us. My pictures show young people in undefined places. The point is not the location itself, but the existential dimension, its identity.
